All Burned up

These suppressors did a pretty good job. Those black RJ14 connectors were clear before the strike! –I don’t have a lot of experience with lightning strikes, but I doubt this was a direct hit…

You can see the burn behind the suppressor I removed from the wall. The phone system, modems, and fax machine survived. The postage machine died.

Here’s a hit with NO protection! Interestingly, the feeder, and cross connect carried the current. The heat/fire occurred at the connection points. (hard wired, and modular) Based on the areas burned I could clearly trace the route of the incoming lines onto the top block, then cross connect onto the lower block before interfacing with the Panasonic 1232 phone system.

Can't see it in this picture, but those blocks are not only charred, but badly melted too.

Temporary Point to Point Wireless

I was called to install a temporary Point to Point Wireless link at a school to bypass a cut network connection during campus wide remodel.

This radio is peeking over the edge of a fasade. I'm standing on the roof as I take this picture.

I had to return to lower this antenna as low as possible. Kids were throwing basketballs at it!

High Bidder wins!

I lost the bid on the original network cabling when the office was being built. But, I won the bid for the network expansion a couple of years later.

You can see the original cables to the right of my cable install. A proper installation simply costs a little more money to implement.

Winery in Lake County. Electricians installed CAT6 network. They stripped jacket to the back of electrical box like it is common to do with Romex. But the jacket needs to be within 1/2 inch of jack to meet performace specifications.

Yeah, I live in the sticks. This is a DeMarcation point on Orr Springs Rd. — Not sure why they were compelled to recess the NID’s into the tree…
